One of the worst Clancy books ever. Pages and pages of descriptions of CQB, flat characters, a plot that requires not just suspending belief but also reason. The recurring superhero theme should have been a red flag. Stupid just stupid. This new author really struck out on this one. I normally love this genre but it took all I could do to get through the last 5 chapters! I enjoy close order combat stories with the best of them but when you take 3 chapters to describe action that should really be told in 3 paragraphs it just gets old. The action with “super hero” Jack Ryan got so convoluted and unrealistic that it was impossible to believe that anyone could survive and I simply couldn’t follow it. I started by jumping from the beginning of each paragraph then devolved into jumping from page to page, I have never seen so much ridiculous action stuffed into so little story line! I hate writing this because I have always been a fan of Clancy himself and of well written Clancy stories but it’s the truth. Sorry.
